The Ortovox Probe 240 is an entry-level aluminium avalanche probe built for skiers, snowboarders and ski tourers who need a reliable, lightweight probe without the complexity or cost of Ortovox’s more advanced models. Reduced to the essentials, the Probe 240 uses a quick-lock assembly system that deploys the full 240cm length in seconds with no fumbling required, and collapses just as quickly once the search is complete. The 11mm aluminium construction keeps weight to just 200g — light enough to carry without noticing, and stiff enough to penetrate efficiently through variable snow densities.

A large probe tip with a significantly wider diameter than the probe elements themselves improves penetration by reducing friction and creating a bore channel larger than the probe body, allowing the probe to withdraw cleanly rather than freezing in place. The visual guide system features clearly legible depth markers, a definitive 1-metre marker and an orange-coloured bottom segment that provides immediate visual confirmation when approaching the buried person during the shovelling phase.
